Klemtu: Kitasoo First Nation Solar Project

Project location: Klemtu, British Columbia, Canada
Project size: 23 kW
Community Served: Kitasoo/Xai’Xais First Nation

Project summary:

In partnership with the Kitasoo/Xai’Xais First Nation, this 23 kW rooftop solar project was completed using ELCE-donated solar panels. The installation is located on top of a school in Klemtu, in the coastal fjords of British Columbia. Being on an island, Klemtu operates its own hydropower microgrid with diesel backup. This solar installation reduces the community’s need for diesel generation thereby improving air quality and reducing emissions. The Klemtu Solar Project is in partnership with The Great Bear Initiative and Bullfrog Power. Also a big thank you to SunEdison for its significant support!
