Shining a Light on Solar Energy

Developing energy literacy through critical inquiry

ELCE’s K-12 Solar Education Project

With funding from the Government of Alberta’s Community and Environment Action Grant program, and in collaboration with The Critical Thinking Consortium (TC2), ELCE has developed a series of 24 educational learning challenges about solar energy for primary and secondary classrooms (kindergarten through grade 12). Using an inquiry based approach, students will think critically, creatively, and collaboratively to increase awareness and develop understanding about energy, the environment and solar power.

These learning resources for teachers and students will take advantage of existing and future solar PV systems operating on or near schools and will be designed to both nurture and achieve climate literacy. The project was piloted in select classrooms in early 2019, and is now available to access online!
